The Deadly Combination of Smoking and Alcohol Part 3

smoking and alcoholThinking alone is not the only one affected by smoking and alcohol. The effect of being high on alcohol coupled with smoking might seem tremendously pleasurable since it instigates the release of some brain chemicals, like dopamine, but it's a fleeting sensation that often leads to depression when the effects have subsided.

Moreover, smoking is responsible for 30 percent of all cancers in the U.S. Lung cancer ranks the number one killer among all cancers in the U.S. that kills over 150,000 every year, yet, the disease could have been prevented since 90% of all lung cancer incidents is caused by smoking.

Smoking-related Complications

It must be noted that lung cancer is only one of the disease related to smoking. Smoking can also lead to mouth, esophagus, throat, cervical, and tongue cancers. The risk increases especially with a diet that lacks fruits and vegetables as well as physical activity. Aside from cancer, the chemicals in every cigarette stick can lead to other respiratory complications like emphysema and tuberculosis.

A study conducted by the University of California-Berkeley, found that smokers were 73 percent more susceptible to getting infected with TB and the chance increases more than twice for active TB to develop compared with non-smokers. This means a 40-60 percent chance that the TB bacteria will develop into a full-blown disease.
