More Ways that Cigarettes Kill You

If you would like to stop smoking, I hope the following facts give you the will power to succeed. For instance, did you know that women that smoke that are postmenopausal have, on average, a lower bone density than those women who have never smoked. Brittle bones are a big problem with older women, so why smoke and make it even worse?

Low bone density makes it more probable that they will suffer hip fractures when falling, which is a problem amongst many of the elderly. As a result of subsequent complications, these bone fractures can sometimes be fatal.

Lung cancer and heart disease, of course, remain to be the most well-known ill-health effects from heavy smoking on a long term basis.

“Long term” is unclear. However, the longer a person has the habit of heavy smoking, the higher the odds. Certain studies that have been undertaken in the UK, show that people in their 30s and 40s are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers. Those smokers that puff away on one packet a day have 2 to 4 times the chance of developing coronary heart disease than non-smokers.

“Heavy” is as equally unclear. However, smoking one pack per day is the figure that is most often mentioned, and it associates well with the amount that most smokers consume. Research undertaken in the US estimated that 87% of lung cancer cases are the result of smoking a pack per day for the duration of 20 years or more.

The risk can be lowered if you stop smoking now. Your circulation will improve within 3 months. The odds of acquiring heart disease are halved after one year. After 5 to 15 years, the odds are the same as for those people that have never smoked. Never think that it is too late to quit. Begin a quit smoking program today.
