Stop Smoking Now - Why and How

Smoking is more than just a bad habit - it can kill you. Maybe you think that doesn't matter. Maybe your life is so bad that you actually want to die.

But will you feel that way after the doctor says you have inoperable cancer? Or when you have emphysema and every breath is a struggle?

Here is a list of some effective ways to quit your smoking habit:

1. Be positive about quitting

In order to quit the smoking habit effectively, be positive about your decision first. Are you willing to quit smoking? Experts say that the greatest factor to successful elimination of a bad habit is the willingness of the individual to stop the bad habit.

People who have committed themselves to quitting smoking are those who have realized the bad effects of smoking not only on their health but on their social life as well.

2. Believe what other people say about your bad habit

Most smokers don’t believe what other people are saying about their bad habit. When people complain about your bad smoking habit, it only means one thing, it’s causing problems, not just to yourself but also to those around you.

3. Set a goal

Don’t just say, I quit. Set a goal. Come up with a specific date to quit. In this way, you’ll have something to look forward to. You have a finish line to tap and a deadline to beat.

4. Divert yourself to different things when you have the urge to smoke

Try to divert your attention to other things whenever you have the urge to smoke. You can try chewing gum or drinking water to counterbalance the saliva building in your mouth.

In time, you’ll be surprise how this can help. Although it won’t totally eliminate your bad smoking habit, it will lessen your cravings for smoking.

5. Find the culprit

Try to identify why you smoke in the first place. Finding the reasons or motivators for your bad habit will enable you to understand your urges better. For instance, if you think you smoke whenever you are stressed, cure your stress. In time, you will find it easy to quit your bad smoking habit.

In the end, reward yourself for exerting considerable effort to quit your smoking. Making yourself feel good about what you have just done will justify all the hard work and dedication you have put into it.

Indeed, smoking is a bad habit to break, but it is possible. Just do it. Give yourself a terrific Christmas gift this year - victory over cigarettes.
