Tips to Quit Smoking - A Doctor's Thoughts
Dr. Steven Pickert of Maryland, USA, has helped several of his patients quit smoking. He believes that no one "wants" to quit and that his job is to help them realize it's time to quit.
Think about this: 400,000 deaths a year in the United States alone are attributed to smoking cigarettes. It's the most preventable cause of death in the United States. That alone is an excellent reason to quit smoking or to never begin.
The key word there is "preventable." No one has to smoke. Every smoker could quit.
Here are some tips that Dr. Pickert gives his patients who decide to quit smoking.
- Prepare to quit by buying a brand you don't like and smoking those.
- If his patient thinks he has to have a cigarette, Dr. Pickert tells him to buy a pack of cigarettes, smoke one and throw the rest away. Spending that much money for one smoke will help deter you.
- If you begin your day with a cup of coffee and a cigarette, stop smoking with your coffee. Drink your coffee and then a little while later have your cigarette.
